The following information is created to help the new students look for apartments in the farwest area in Austin. The information on these pages are obtained through the staffs from the leasing offices of these apartments, yet the policies change with time. Even though the information will be updated on a weekly basis, it should only serve the purpose of preliminary housing guide. Students are encouraged to contact the apartment leasing office, the locator or UTCSSA staff.
Pre-leasing: By pre-leasing right now, you are put into the waiting list and can lock the listed price when you sign the contract once it';s available. The price usually goes up by $50-$80/month during the summer. There';s a chance that you may not get the first priority of what you wanted, then the apartment will provide you with the second priority or you can pick what';s available. Of course, the worst case is that there are lots of people waiting ahead of you and there';s no apartment available at all when it comes to your turn. Then only the refundable fee will be returned to you. Some of the apartment will return the administrative fee as well. On the other hand, if you eventually got the apartment you pre-leased for, then all the listed non-refundable fee won';t be return to you either, and the refundable deposits will be returned to you in full or partially the time you move out in the future.
Financial statement: Usually the apartments require the future resident to have some kind of financial statements. Generally speaking, your monthly income should be 3 times the rent you';re gonna pay for each month. For those students who haven';t arrived US yet, the official offer usually are fine, especially you have a roommate and you two are gonna lease a two bedroom apartment. Another kind of financial proof is the bank state in dollars, which some of the students should have for the university any way. A third choice is to have a co-signer who';s local and whose monthly income should be 6 times the rent you';re gonna pay in each month. In any case, for a student who';s coming from out side U.S. and who';s got either a assistant or scholarship in UT or an admission with his/her own bank statement, the financial statement should be no problem.
Application fee: application fee is usually non-refundable whether you eventually got the apartment or not. It is usually used by the apartment to pay the background check fee to a third-party company for criminal record check.
Administrative fee: this fee is usually non-refundable. It is the fee for any paper work or labor necessary to complete your application process.
Un-furnished apartment: most of the apartments in Austin are unfurnished for rent. Unfurnished apartment usually are equiped with a fully functional kitchen with oven, fridge, dish washer, .etc., except for the microwave.  Other than the kitchen, the resident should prepare his/her own furniture for when moving in.
Utility: the utility for the farwest area usually includes the electricity, water, gas, trash, cable, network, etc. Depending on the different season, the water usually takes 50-60 dollars / month for a 2 bedroom apartment, the electricity takes 35~150 dollars, the difference is the electricity spent on the air-conditioner and heater. The cable, network, or home phone usually are 40 dolloars for each item, and the bundle from the same company is a little bit cheaper.

NOTE:  
- All Far West apartments comes with Fridge / Stove but does NOT include furniture, utility, or internet.
- Far West apartment lease by the whole unit rather than by room.  If you are looking for a bedroom in a 2-2, you will need to find a roommate and sign the lease together.
- Its recommended to get on the aparments summer pre-lease waitlist now.  It would be hard to find an apartment in Far West in July/Aug.
- The best way to find out their vacancy/price is by calling them directly.  Call them during office hours, and if you get the voice mail, hang up and try again in 10 minutes, it takes a few tries.
- one bedroom goes for about $600, two bedroom goes for about $900.
- a lot of far west apartments does not work with locators but do give referral bonus to current tenants.  Its recommended that when you find an apartment you like, seek a current tenant to refer you in.  this way, the current tenant gets a bonus, and you can get some help from the current tenant during application / move in process.

Comment:
The apartments in this complex are newer than most of the other apartments in the farwest area. It also has the advantage of being at the fist stop of UT shuttle bus and 3 minutes walking distance to HEB. As a result, the rent of this apartment complex is little bit higher than most of the other apartments for similar floor plan and room size. Yet, with the $500 refer fee the price can be brought down to about the same level of the other apartments.

Comments: This is the largest apartment complex in the farwest area and is one of the three apartment complex managed by the westdale company in this area. There are multiple floor plans and more apartments available. The price is also competitive. It is on the 3rd and 4th bus stop of UT shuttle. Yet, there';s no resident refer fee for this apartment.

如果你有车,住FARWEST哪都行,或者任何离PICKLE更近的非校车路线上的小区都行,开车去很方便
如果你没车,貌似没有直接从FARWEST去PICKLE的校车,貌似只有CITY的BUS或者根本没有直通那里的BUS,CITY的BUS很慢的,没车还是住主校区那边比较好,主校区有直搭PICKLE的校车

现在比去年怎么贵了那么多啊,现在2-1,2-2没有800以下的房子了,晕啊,我们也要为经济危机买单哦

大概是因为很多人刚入住,目前的availability不高吧
整个farwest的公寓价格应该都是同步的,因为公寓和公寓之间总是做price check,然后调整自己的价格
